Practice History

Pacific Urology was formed in 1995 when six urologists in solo practice joined together to form a group practice that would allow them to obtain and maintain all the latest technological innovations and to share their knowledge and experience. The group's mission was to provide "university quality of care" in a private practice setting, right in the patients' community. As some of the original founding urologists retired, their partners replaced them with bright, energetic urologists trained in some of the most acclaimed university hospitals. The existing six physicians bring more than 100 years of combined experience to healing men, women and children. In January 2012, Pacific Urology joined practices with Diablo Valley Oncology and Hematology, forming Contra Costa County's first private multi-specialty group of its kind.

Notable Expertise

Pacific Urology excels in advanced surgery, particularly robotic surgery. This minimally invasive surgery, using small incisions, tiny instruments and miniature cameras, allows patients to heal faster. The practice uses robotic equipment manufactured under the brand name da Vinci. Pacific Urology physicians have become some of the most experienced da Vinci urological surgeons in the nation--performing more than 500 robotic procedures of various types. A practice physician performed the first robotic radical prostatectomy, a treatment for prostate cancer, at John Muir Medical Center in Concord, which was instrumental in bringing robotic surgery to the hospital.

Group Specialties

Pacific Urology restores urologic health for men, women and children, addressing every urological need. It is a multi-specialist urology practice, with practitioners for pediatrics, women, men, surgeries and cancer patients. The group’s specialties encompass the diagnosis and treatment of: bladder and kidney cancer; kidney stones; prostate cancer; enlarged prostate; testicular cancer; erectile dysfunction; overactive bladder; incontinence and vaginal prolapse. They also include the performance of male circumcisions, vasectomies and vasectomy reversals; and the evaluation, treatment and management of all aspects of male infertility.

Physicians

Besides the specialties and expertise noted above, all six physicians are nationally known for their high success rates in vasectomies and vasectomy reversals. All are certified by the American Board of Urology. Pacific Urology physicians have won numerous awards from independent organizations for clinical skill and quality of care, including a number of prestigious Patients' Choice Awards by the popular doctor-rating website Vitals.com. Pacific Urology doctors have developed close ties with area physicians and hospitals.

What is Urology?

Urology is the medical and surgical specialty that focuses on the urinary tracts of males and females, and on the reproductive system of males. The organs, tubes, muscles, and nerves that work together to create, store, and carry urine are the urinary system. The urinary system comprises two kidneys, two ureters, the bladder, two sphincter muscles, and the urethra. The male reproductive system is made up of the testes, epididymis, vas deferens, seminal vesicles, prostate and penis.

Pacific Urology serves the San Francisco Bay Area and northern California region with eight locations. Pacific Urology has grown from its original two offices in Walnut Creek and Concord to branch offices in Brentwood, Antioch, San Ramon, and Livermore and two in Rossmoor.
